BRITTANY KENNELL
''YOU DON'T GET ME STONED''
MONTREAL COUNTRY SINGER-SONGWRITER BRITTANY KENNELL RELEASES YOU DON’T GET ME STONED, HER SECOND SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO SINCE NBC THE VOICE. THE TOP OF THE COUNTRY SEMI-FINALIST IS SET TO RELEASE HER EP IN 2021.
After spending 10 years in the United States, Brittany Kennell released her first official single Eat Drink Remarry in February. Today, the semi-finalist of SiriusXM’s 2020 Top of the Country contest releases a 2nd single : You Don’t Get Me Stoned.
From Beaconsfield (QC), the singer-songwriter moved to Boston on a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music. Post-graduation, she moved to Nashville for 7 years to pursue a career in songwriting. To improve her one-on-one meetings with publishing companies, Kennell auditioned for NBC The Voice, ending up in Los Angeles on team Blake Shelton, where she became the first and only Canadian to ever take part in the American television competition.
Inspired by a break-up, Brittany moved home to Montreal in 2018 and released Eat Drink Remarry one year later. This first release established Brittany as one of Quebec’s most promising country acts, securing her opening gigs for rising star Matt Lang and a spot on SiriusXM’s 2020 Top of the Country contest in collaboration with the Canadian Country Music Association. The track was featured on CMT, received over 130,000 streams on Spotify and was played on Canadian and American playlists such as Live Country, New Boots and even Shania Twain’s personal favorites.
The country songstress today releases another empowering song about being honest when it comes to love. You Don’t Get Me Stoned was co-written with Nashville friend Nathan Meckel and produced by Quebec’s multi-instrumentalist John Anthony Gagnon-Robinette. YDGMS is an upbeat track reminding us to stop playing games and say it like is. Directed by Charles-William De Melo, the music video shows a young woman on a road trip where she leaves her boyfriend behind before taking a road to new beginnings.
''If you’re not feeling it or it doesn’t work for you, say it and move on. No hard feelings, just cold hard truth. I want to make it cool and comfortable to be honest in love — everyone deserves to be happy'' - Brittany Kennell
Halfway between Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow, You Don’t Get Me Stoned is the perfect blend of vintage country and classic rock that inspires her sound. You Don’t Get Me Stoned is available now on all digital platforms.
