''Fall In Love And Get Tattoos''
Her name is Augusta, but you can call her “Gus." The Toronto born songstress’ eclectic country/rock sound, accompanying her incredible vocal talent, honest/soulful/hand-crafted songs mixed with an energetic, engaging stage presence, has made her the darling of the stage everywhere she goes.
After the success of her last single “Vagabond,” Augusta has decided to share the darker, more vulnerable side of her song writing. “Falling in love can be like getting a tattoo, sometimes,” she says. “DANG STUPID!”
Writing my new radio single “Fall in Love and Get Tattoos” was a super special thing for me. “It was the first time where I felt the vibe in the room played truly the largest part of why the song came out so raw and honest,” says Augusta.
She co-wrote the tune with her friend Heather Little; known for songs like Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder and Lead” // “Me and Charlie Talking.”
Augusta says the afternoon felt like nothing more than two chicks hanging out, and recalls the writing process. “We wrote at my Nashvillle apartment, and anyone who knows me knows it’s a fire hazard in there, cause of all the candles.
Heather dubbed my place “The Hippie Haven.” I’ll never forget that. We were just laughing and joking. The vibe was right, and the coffee was strong. We just ended up admiring one another’s ink and told each other the stories that went with the images on each of our arms and hands” says Ray.
“If you have tattoos at all, chances are, you remember why you decided to get a word or an image on your skin for the rest of your life. Whether you really like avocados and decided you wanted an avocado tattooed on your arm after a night of drinking, or you wanted the name of your lover on your chest. Looking at your ink takes you back to where you were in your life when you first heard that needle.
For example, I got my first tattoo 30mins before playing a show on Broadway in Nashville for CMA Fest; I went on stage with the plastic wrap on my arm and everything... It was not the proudest moment of my career or life, but when I look at that arrow on my wrist I know where it came from and why it’s there.
That’s EXACTLY the point Heather and I were trying to get across with this song. Tattoos have stories, and so do people. It’s just that some of the stories that people decide to tell with their bodies are just less meaningful than others. And for that, there’s laser tattoo removal!
Hope you guys dig “Fall in Love and Get Tattoos,” as much as I dug bringing it to life with Heather // Jason Wyatt // Elliott Didur and the boys!
