STARS AND FANS COME TOGETHER FOR ONE FANTASTIC NIGHT OF COUNTRY MUSIC
DEAN BRODY AND BRETT KISSEL THE BIG WINNERS OF THE NIGHT at #CCMA Awards
(London, ON) September 11, 2016 – The 2016 Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) Awards Show, hosted by CBC television personality Jessi Cruickshank (Canada's Smartest Person, The Goods), celebrated eight CCMA Award categories in an evening filled with memorable moments and knock-out performances. Broadcast across Canada on CBC at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) and CMT (Canada) at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, the CCMA Awards Show was staged at Budweiser Gardens, in London, Ontario, for the first time in the show's 30+ year broadcast history.
CCMA Awards Countdown Concert
The CCMA Awards Countdown Concert kicked off Sunday's special night featuring some of your favourite Canadian country music artists including:
Lindsay Ell
The Lovelocks
Wes Mack
River Town Saints
The Washboard Union
Bobby Wills
JOHN DEERE GREEN CARPET
The John Deere Green Carpet was the perfect opportunity to star gaze: whether you're a fan of Canadian country artists and personalities, or international star power, the John Deere Green Carpet was the place to be. Glitz and glam hit London, Ontario filling hotels, venues and streets with fans gathering to see their favourite country stars who were performing throughout Canadian Country Music Week. Nominated artists, performers, presenters and special guests walked the carpet and interacted with fans and media along the way.
CCMA Awards Show
The night opened with Tim Hicks singing his hit single, 'Stompin Ground' off his just released new album 'Shake These Walls,' giving the audience exactly what they expect from this five-time GOLD certified artist. Tim Hicks is one of the biggest names in new Country Music today and he did not disappoint serving up grit and rock from the soul in his award winning performance at Sunday nights show. It was such a fitting song for London's first such live music awards show to be broadcast from the downtown Budweiser Gardens. "Hicks" new album is available now at iTunes making his release perfect timing for #CCMA and the fans are definitely responding.
First single “Stompin’ Ground” was the #1 most added song at Canadian country radio and the top selling digital Canadian country single during its first week of release, proving that while the five-time GOLD certified Hicks may change things here and there, he’s telling fans that he’s plugged into their world. “I’ve never been more comfortable in my own shoes as an artist and songwriter and I think this song is living proof of that,” says Hicks. “Stompin’ Ground is a definite reflection of my need to constantly push my own limits personally and the limits of my music in general. My fans deserve that.”
This is definitely some of Hicks best work and that connection to hometown, songs and lyrics that people can easily relate too, will make this album multi award winning singles that will top the charts cementing Tim Hicks as one of the very best in new Canadian Country music to hit the industry world wide along with Brett Kissel, Chad Brownlee, Jess Moskaluke and so many more...yes, Canadian artist's. Canada has made a permanent mark in music and London showcased the best of that never ending pool of talent this week at CCMA.

All eyes were on Jessi as as she had a very passionate moment with Canadian super star Chad Brownlee during the Kiss Cam segment responding with "what happens in London, stays in London."
Jessi brought her star power and humour to the CCMA stage in London for Canada's best night in country music. Jessi proved once again why she is hailed as "one of the funniest women on TV today, period." She was hilarious bringing the crowd to cheers and laughter all night long with her quick wit and punch lines that will surely generate record-breaking ratings for the CCMA Awards Show this year.

Brett Kissel and Carolyn Dawn Johnson’s gave one of the best performances of the night. There was not a dry eye in the room when “I Didn’t Fall In Love With Your Hair” was performed. A powerful song, about a married couple experiencing the wife’s battle with cancer.
“In country music, in general, we are able to tell stories that other genres aren’t able to tell,” explained Kissel. “I’m very proud of that song in particular because it’s a song for my mom. She’s had cancer, honestly, a number of times so it’s a very special song for her. And the fact that Carolyn Dawn Johnson performs on that song is extra special because she is my mom’s favourite singer. I didn’t even tell my mom that I had Carolyn sing on the record. I literally just handed her the CD and said, ‘Whatever you do, listen to track 10 first.’
“It’s a special song for my mom and I think it gives a lot of hope to a lot of other women across Canada. Whether you’re young or old, it’s a song that has such a strong and positive message and I’ve very proud to be the guy to bring that message to the people.”
The CCMA Awards wouldn't be complete without Terri Clark. Terri Clark's performance solidifies why she is a women of power and a Canadian Country legend.
Four-time CCMA Female Artist of the Year and eight-time CCMA Fans’ Choice Award winner Terri Clark, has sold more than four million albums and garnered 13 Top Ten singles including the hits; “Better Things To Do”, “Girls Lie Too” and” “No Fear”. In September, Clark will headline the Back to My Roots Solo Acoustic Tour kicking off in P.E.I. and wrapping in B.C. in November.
One of the most anticipated guest performances of the night was by country super star, Sam Hunt. The crowds of fans were gathered all around screaming outside the gardens when Hunt hit the John Deere Green Carpet earlier that night and it didn't get any quieter inside the Budweiser Gardens as he took the stage. This country singer knows how to get the crowd up and out of their seats and partying right along with him. Hunt gave an exhilarating thrilling performance for the London fans.
Sam Hunt’s debut album Montevallo on MCA Nashville topped the Billboard Country Albums Chart in its first week and remains the best-selling debut album for a country artist since 2011. Montevallo landed on multiple “Best of” lists including the Associated Press, Billboard, Country Weekly, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, SPIN Magazine, Village Voice and The Washington Post. The album has produced three consecutive #1 PLATINUM-selling singles with “Leave the Night On”, “House Party”, the double-PLATINUM “Take Your Time,” plus Hunt’s PLATINUM-selling single, “Break Up In A Small Town”. His fifth single from the project, “Make You Miss Me” is playing at radio now. Hunt recently earned his first-ever GRAMMY nominations for Best New Artist and Best Country Album and celebrated his first American Music Award earning the all-genre New Artist of the Year title.
CCMA planned this show incredibly well from beginning with dynamic performance by Tim Hicks to the end with a brilliant performance by Johnny Reid who was joined on stage by Lindsay Ell, Lindi Ortega and JJ Shiplett – it was a music moment we will not forget.
