Music's Journey Podcast INTERVIEW # w/ Juno Award Winning Pop Folk Band The East Pointers With Their New Single To Honor Bandmate Koady Chaisson With ''Stronger Than You Know''

Canadian pop-folk band The East Pointers,  released their powerful new single “Stronger Than You Know” via Nettwerk Records and all streaming platforms.

“The concept for “Stronger Than You Know” came from an epic winter storm that hit Koady’s house on the Eastern shore of Prince Edward Island. We wrote this song a few days later with Colin MacDonald (of The Trews) and talked about battening down the hatches when life throws a storm at you (Koady literally had to nail a 2x4 across his door). We were thinking about everyone around the world suddenly dealing with different situations during a pandemic, and the struggles of mental health,” said Jake Charron.

In January this year, the band suffered an unimaginable loss with the sudden passing of beloved band member Koady Chaisson. The new music has Koady’s musical footprint on it as the band was well into the new EP sessions just prior to his untimely death.

The new single is a real departure from the band's previous body of work and showcases their undeniable musical chops and reminds listeners that they are stronger than they think even when times get tough. Written by Tim Chaisson, Jake Charron, Koady Chaisson, and Colin MacDonald and produced by Derek Hoffman (Arkells, The Trews, Silverstein), the upbeat and decidedly folk/pop tune (with barely a fiddle in earshot!) is on track to reach a wider audience and add to the impressive 20 million career streams they have amassed to date.

“This was one of the first songs that we worked on during our lock-down writing sessions in Charlottetown, with Colin on Zoom from Toronto. We had some of the music worked out from our last tour in Australia and we're piecing together a few pieces. Koady’s tenor guitar riff right off the top, for example, was just waiting for the right song, and it all came together with our wizard of a producer Derek Hoffman”, continued Jake.

Since forming in 2014, the band has continued to be furiously energetic, musically complex, and technically brilliant and now a family grounding as the seventh generation of traditional Prince Edward Island and Ontario-based Celtic players and writers have effortlessly parlayed into the folk-pop arena.

Gaining international recognition as musical trailblazers, the band has continued to rise to success, after releasing their debut album Secret Victory in late 2015 and performing in Canada, the United States, and Australia. The band has also received achievements including a JUNO Award for Traditional Roots Album of the Year in 2017 for Secret Victory, the Canadian Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year at the 12th Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2016, and nominations for Instrumental Group of the Year and Canadian Folk Music Award as Ensemble of the Year again in 2018.

The multi-award-winning band is back on the road with new music (and a new sound) from their forthcoming EP, as well as a back catalog of the off-the-hook tunes and anthemic songs that have made them festival favourites over the years.

''It was an honor to host this special interview with Tim Chaisson honoring his cousin and bandmate Koady Chaisson,'' says Kim Cyr, Editor in Chief of NOW and THEN Magazine, radio host, and host of the International Music's Journey Podcast.   ''We chatted about the loss of Koady and the impact it has had on the family, band, and fans around the world.  Tim shares stories about Koady and his love of music, life after losing someone so close, and the new music to honor Koady's memory.''   To hear my special interview, click on the link below.

Montreal-based Folk- Pop Artist singer-songwriter Oliver Charles has been working on developing his singing and writing abilities over the past several years.  He has been in the studio for the past 2-3 years.

Coming from a musical family, Charles discovered his passion for music in his teens, teaching himself to play piano and the guitar and taking inspiration from artists such as Jack Johnson, Billy Joel, Rufus Wainwright, Josh Groban, and Ed Sheeran.

After perfecting his sound, Charles released a handful of singles including “Follow Me” in 2017 which peaked at #3 and was named “Hit of The Week” on the Quebec English charts. Charles continued to release singles “Waiting for My Call,” “Hypnotizing,” and “Will I See You Again,” reaching over 1 million combined digital streams.

After an intense period of writing and recording alongside the well-respected producers The Grand Brothers (Pascale Picard, Kevin Parent, Bran Van 3000), Charles is getting prepared to release his debut album in 2021.

I had the opportunity to chat with Oliver Charles about his latest single “Let Go Of My Ghosts”, music industry challenges, and what’s next.

'Let Go of My Ghosts is a pop-folk-infused tune about the attempt to overcome trust issues after an emotional breakup and having the faith to love again. When past experiences outweigh your optimism in romance, the process of falling in love again might uncover trust issues that simply discourage you from committing to someone new.'

''Oliver Charles has a vision that is absolutely beautiful within his artistry with a heart bigger than life and that is what I admire about him and his music,'' says Kim Cyr, Editor in Chief of NOW and THEN Music and host of the International Music's Journey Podcast.   ''Charles has the ability to tap into his soul and really feel with his heart and that is what makes him special with the music he writes.  The folk singer-songwriter style of writing allows the listener to emotionally go along the journey he takes you on by exposing that raw vulnerability in real-life situations.  I get everything he writes.  It was my pleasure to get to know Charles and see the bright light that he shines upon us all.  Check out my interview with this rising star.  Click the link below.

INTERVIEW w/ Canadian Indie/Folk Artist 'Kate Gillespie' New Single Release! Listen Here

With her debut EP racking up over 3.2 million streams on Spotify, 25 year old singer-songwriter Kate Gillespie, is making her mark on the Indie Folk scene. The title track, “Pink & Gold”, has received over 800,000 streams on Spotify, and was noted for its “…make-you shiver vocals, lyrics that stick in your head and tug at your heartstrings……” (Beach Metro June, 2017.) Her two singles, “Not Having Fun” and “New York” was also featured on CBC Radio's "q", with Tom Power.  Born and raised in Toronto, Kate made the jump to Nashville in 2014, to pursue her music career. Her latest single, "New York", was released in May 2019, and was noted for taking “Kate’s music (is taken) to new heights with a heavy backbeat, the haunting sounds of echoing guitars and brutal honesty within her storytelling.” (pressparty.com) Kate's music reflects every bit of hope and heartbreak that she’s lived through. Her transparent, vulnerable songwriting, compliments her poetic storytelling, finger picking, and witty persona, to create something truly special. Kate is gearing up for a U.S and Canada wide tour with Sofar Sounds in 2021. She is a graduate of the Belmont University’s School of Music’s Commercial Voice and Songwriting program.

Her music has the power to lift people up and heal them, just as it has always done for her.

MULTI-PLATINUM ARTIST BOBBY BAZINI RELEASES   BRAND NEW ALBUM, MOVE AWAY   MARKS THE SINGER-SONGWRITER’S FOURTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM!

MULTI-PLATINUM ARTIST BOBBY BAZINI RELEASES
BRAND NEW ALBUM, MOVE AWAY

MARKS THE SINGER-SONGWRITER’S FOURTH FULL-LENGTH ALBUM

14 AUGUST 2020 (TORONTO, ON) – Today, after a decade in the spotlight highlighted by two JUNO® Award nominations, multiplatinum success, tens of millions of streams, and sold out shows, Bobby Bazini shares his fourth full-length album, Move Away via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

LISTEN TO MOVE AWAY HERE

“I was reflecting on the past ten years,” Bobby admits when discussing Move Away. “So much has happened. When I started, I was 19-years-old and didn’t have a career or a steady relationship.” He continued. “It’s now exactly ten years that I’ve been an artist and also been with my girlfriend. The two almost began simultaneously. That was a crazy decade. Today I look back and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m here, doing what I love to do with my significant other by my side. With each album, I know I go a little further, and Move Away is that next step.”

The highly anticipated new music comes after the JUNO nominated artist teased fans with two brand new songs, “Choose You” and “Move Away” earlier this year. Move Away began to take shape after the singer-songwriter took a much-needed break which included a sojourn in Italy. The album was worked on in London, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Montreal with producer and co-writer Pedro Vito. With Bobby tapping into unbridled energy throughout the recording process he was able to achieve a “more raw and modern sound,” which also led him to pen 60 initial ideas (double what he wrote for Summer Is Gone). The result of which is his most personal album to date, Move Away.

“I hope people are inspired and moved by these stories,” he leaves off. “In order to get a person’s attention, you need to make them feel something—whether it’s making them cry or making them feel good. This album has a lot of that. I believe this sentiment to be even more important in current times than ever.”
