Music's Journey Podcast INTERVIEW #163 w/ Country Singer/Songwriter Ryan McMahon Explores His Yearning To Reconnect With The New Single ''One More Fire''

In 2019, as Ryan McMahon returned from Tonder Festival in Denmark, the opportunity to play with and meet Canadian Country Music singer Aaron Pritchett marked the embarking on a new chapter in music. Pritchett took Ryan under his wing and lit a new fire under McMahon’s feet as the pandemic settled into the hearts of people around the world. After a few attempts at telling the story, Ryan wrote “One More Fire” as a calling card for how his passion for music has been reignited.

Canadian singer/songwriter Ryan McMahon has made his mark on the U.S. Country radio market with the upbeat and catchy new single “One More Fire.”

Produced in Vancouver, British Columbia at Bryan Adams’ The Warehouse studio by Jordan Pritchett and Danielle King, the track features top-notch talent, including Scott Smith on Electric Guitar and Banjo (Aaron Pritchett), Bryan Adams’ veteran Pat Steward on Drums, Jeremy Holmes on Bass and Mandolin (Steve Dawson), Darryl Havers on Organ (Jim Byrnes) and McMahon on Guitar.

Up to the place with the craziest views
I want to remember what brought me to you
One more fire, talking only in truths
I want to be happy
I want to be

Light me one more fire
sing a song of another time
tomorrow's on my mind
what's ahead of me is better than what's behind (R. McMahon)

McMahon was inspired to write the song midway through the pandemic – when his creativity and “spark” were both lagging. “For a performer, the isolation really had an impact. This is the song that got me motivated again and I’ve been waiting for a chance to get into the hearts of people throughout North America. I want to be a part of what brings love, joy, and happiness back into folks’ lives and I believe ‘One More Fire’ is my best chance to do that.”

Over the years, Ryan has shared the stage with Buffy Ste. Marie and Nickelback to Canadian country artists Chad Brownlee, Brett Kissel, Dallas Smith, and Aaron Pritchett. His talent, persona, and musicality opened many doors to the range of genres encompassed in his songs.

"Of course, songs and art are subjective things, but to me 'One More Fire' represents that yearning to obtain connectivity to the human race around me,” says Ryan. “That feeling in my belly that I had when it was the night before the battle of the bands in high school; or that notion that tomorrow I'm going into a new city to meet that community and make 'em sing, laugh, cry or dance or all of it all at the same time.”

Ryan admits that after years of scratching, clawing, winning, losing, and going through a pandemic that put the brakes on the entertainment industry, the fire to create and perform remains burning in his heart -- and won't be extinguished anytime soon.

''Ryan McMahon has been charming audiences with his quick wit, laughter, and his love of music in his storytelling as a singer-songwriter around the world drawing audiences in with his very unique style,'' says Kim Cyr, Editor in Chief for NOW and THEN Magazine, radio host, and host of the International Music's Journey Podcast.

''I love the new chapter in McMahon's musical journey.   McMahon unveils his new song exploring the yearning to connect with the people around him, the communities he visits, and his audience drawing on that inspiration that lits that fire in his belly.  We all yearn to connect with one another in our own daily lives and this new single reminds us all of the simplest of things that can bring you that joy.  Sometimes we all need a little reminder to get back to our roots and feel inspired about life again and how we are choosing to live it.  McMahon has found that inspiration and I am very excited to hear all the new music he has been working on.  I can feel great things coming from McMahon and I can wait.''

I had the chance to catch up with Ryan McMahon and talk about life as a musician, music, and lyrics.  To hear this fun interview, go to www.musicsjourney.com or go click on the link below.

Music's Journey Podcast INTERVIEW #148 w/ Award Winning Recording Artist Nuela Charles Igniting the Power Within With New Single ''Awakening''

“‘Awakening’ is as much about the evolution, as it is about the arrival. That feeling of ‘I’m here. This is me. Take it or leave it,’” Charles says about the single. “It’s about re-awakening that fiery spirit within, that we can diminish for the sake of others sometimes . . . So, strive for more. Dream big and don’t take no for an answer. Sharks will inevitably circle. And everyone has an opinion. But I realized that just like diamonds, nothing’s stronger than a woman.”

The three-time JUNO-nominated singer-songwriter Nuela Charles is infusing her signature alternative/soul elements into the cathartic track, produced by LA’s Matt Parad (Selah Sue, William Joseph Cook).

Charles was recently announced by The SOCAN Foundation as a winner of the second annual Her Music Awards, which supports and celebrates female-identifying, mid-career Canadian music creators who are on the verge of taking their creative careers to the next level.

Nuela Charles has performed in festivals in Germany, and London, and shared the stage with Canadian icons like Jann Arden and Sam Roberts Band, Charles is ready to take 2022 by storm.

''Nuela Charles is an impressive vocalist and an incredibly talented songwriter,'' says Kim Cyr, Editor in Chief for NOW and THEN Magazine, radio host, and host of the International Music's Journey Podcast.  ''Charles is a force to be reckoned with on both Canadian and global charts with her distinctly soulful voice and emotive empowering lyrics.''

There’s a line in the song that goes “she tried to be a flower, but found her superpower” and it came out of this thought Charles had, about how we as women are constantly seen as these ‘delicate flowers’ and are usually preferred to be seen that way by society – pretty and quiet. Where in fact, women are woven into all aspects of life and should be proud to stand in that power.

I caught up with Nuela to learn more about her background as a performer, her latest single, and what the future holds.

Southern California Rockers BADFLOWER are Direct With the Release of ''30'' Out Now!

Badflower

"30"

This is 30. We’re still here. We’re still dirty. Southern California Rockers BADFLOWER are direct with the first single off their forthcoming sophomore album on Big Machine/John Varvatos Records. The bold track, fittingly titled “30” is due on Friday (7/17), the same date frontman Josh Katz celebrates the milestone birthday. Written and produced by Katz, Joey Morrow’s deliberate guitar riff is a bold start to the track as bassist Alex Espiritu and drummer Anthony Sonetti build around Katz’s vocals charging between angst and ease.

ABOUT BADFLOWER:

Primal and passionate, Badflower frontman Josh Katz transforms as he steps up to the microphone. The unmitigated kind of catharsis fueled by emotion and unfiltered intensity offers an awakening to the mind and body as audiences wholly experience the band’s palpable energy. This approach stands out as Badflower’s calling card as Josh [lead singer, guitarist], Joey Morrow [lead guitar, backing vocals], Alex Espiritu [bass] and Anthony Sonetti [drums] sync to captivate audiences. It is also a big reason why the group quietly became one of L.A.’s most buzzed-about Rock bands. Since their emergence in 2014, Badflower has shared stages with the likes of Cage the Elephant, Soundgarden and Ghost; earned acclaim from outlets such as Nylon, Alternative Press and Loudwire among others; and notched three No. 1s with “The Jester,” “Heroin” and “Ghost” off their critically acclaimed debut album OK, I’M SICK (Big Machine/John Varvatos Records). Wielding their signature energy, the music taps into a gritty and grunge-y gutter rock spirit complemented by jarring theatrical delivery and unshakable riffing. The band’s next single “30”, off their highly anticipated sophomore album, will be released 7/17 and fittingly lands on Katz’s milestone birthday. In addition to their own headlining dates, Badflower most recently toured with Nothing More and multi-platinum rock band Shinedown. For more updates on the band and more information visit Badflowermusic.com.

BAD CHILD SHARES MOST PERSONAL SONG YET WITH THE RELEASE OF “BLOOD”

BAD CHILD SHARES MOST PERSONAL SONG YET WITH THE RELEASE OF “BLOOD”

JULY 2020 (Toronto, ON) – Today, self-taught singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist known as BAD CHILD, shares his most personal song yet, “Blood” through 21 Entertainment/ Universal Music Canada / Capitol Records/ Virgin Records. Each verse characterizes a family member - a Grandfather who was a sniper in the French Foreign Legion, a Grandmother who fled from Algeria after colonization – tracing through the layers of his bloodline. “Blood” arrives at a time when the world is encouraged to reflect inwards and be vulnerable with your findings, a task that BAD CHILD has taken on wholeheartedly.

Mixed by Spike Stent, “’Blood’ is what watered the roots of my family tree,” BAD CHILD explains of the song, “I made this song to help me understand myself - coming from such a broad and multi-cultural background I never knew where I belonged. Growing up eating north African food, listening to French music, hearing many different languages and ways of thinking. I always felt connected to each of them. When asked what I am I always have a difficult time emotionally and intellectually. I was blessed to have been exposed to so many different walks of life so young, but it also led to me never really fitting into a peg. I have an afro with ringlets, not like my grandmother who has tight curls. Race has always been something I have thought about. I've seen people be racist to my grandmother for her darker complexion and African heritage. I have never experienced racism, but I feel very responsible in understanding my family’s history. I always laugh thinking about the shape of my family, it is as if everyone who's ever been at war has fallen in love. My Algerian grandmother married a French foreign legion sniper. My polish grandmother married a German American. My mother was born in Paris, my father in Canada.”

Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, BAD CHILD continues to release new music including an a cover of Soundgarden’s original “Black Hole Sun”, a song that was sung to him as a lullaby by his late mother, listen here. BAD CHILD teamed up with fellow Canadians Justin Bieber, Geddy Lee, Avril Lavigne, Walk Off The Earth and many more on another Bill Withers cover of the classic “Lean On Me” as the broadcast event Stronger Together Tous Ensemble last Sunday April 26.  The cover was released following the show on all streaming platforms with all proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross. Listen to the “Lean On Me” cover here.

BAD CHILD’s eccentric music and unique vision landed him on the festival circuit last summer playing some of the world’s most prestigious line ups including; Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Osheaga. Earlier this year, BAD CHILD was gearing up to join grandson and NoMBe as support for concerts across North America.  Both tours have been postponed in light of the global situation.

BAD CHILD is an artist looking to come to terms with his childhood and his upbringing. After losing his mother at a young age and dealing with heartbreak, he sought refuge from the world in music. Since then he's been breaking new ground with his genre bending and distinguished sound palette. Last year, he released his debut EP Sign Up and became one of Canada’s most exciting exports; profiled in Wonderland Magazine, Complex, HillyDilly, Sidewalk Hustle, Atwood Magazine and the Toronto Star. BAD CHILD’s original song “Candy”, featuring Ryan Chambers, was included on the soundtrack for the buzzed about Netflix film, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. Back in Canada, his first radio single “Breathing Fire” peaked within the top five on alternative radio plus he has been nominated for 2019 SOCAN Songwriting Prize alongside Dilly Dally, grandson and Kaytranda and was recently chosen as one of 33 artists selected for the Music Video Production (MVP) Project.

New Album From Billie Eilish WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

New Album From

Billie Eilish

Release Date: March 29, 2019

Billie Eilish’s meteoric rise to global stardom has been nothing short of phenomenal and arguably unparalleled to date. Since her ‘Ocean Eyes’ debut, Billie has quietly, yet unapologetically infiltrated the forefront of pop. Thanks to a growing legion of loyal followers across the globe, an EP that has sat in the Billboard Top 200 for more than 18 months now and more than 5 billion combined streams globally, her tours have sold out consecutively around the world.

“‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” was written, produced and recorded entirely by 17-year-old Billie Eilish and brother Finneas in their childhood home of Highland Park, Los Angeles. Recorded in Finneas’ bedroom opposite Billie’s, the pair spent most of 2018 writing songs on the road, then spending many days and nights when off the road, at home, recording the record. The first to be revealed since the album announcement is “bury a friend,” a driving tour-de-force of a song, trailblazing its way into the world and sounding quite unlike anything else that’s out right now. Reaffirming Billie Eilish’s place in the music world, always ahead of the curve, never compromising her sound or vision.

New Single ''Billie Eilish'' Everything I Wanted, Out Now!!

everything i wanted

New Single From

Billie Eilish

Following the release of her groundbreaking Number 1 debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, Darkroom/Interscope Records artist Billie Eilish has released a brand new song titled “everything i wanted.” Recorded at both their home studio in Highland Park and on the road on tour this summer, the track was co-written by Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, her sole collaborator, producer and beloved elder brother, and is a touching tribute to their kinship. “This song is one my brother and I wrote about each other.” Eilish revealed to her fans today. “No matter what happens, we always have been and will be there to make it better.”

“everything i wanted” arrives as 2019 draws to an end, a year that has unquestionably been her biggest to date. Earlier this year, the 17-year old singer, songwriter and musician debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with her album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. She scored her first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 with “bad guy,” which has since amassed more than 3 billion global audio streams alone, and reached No. 1 at Top 40 radio. WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is now the highest selling debut album of 2019 and biggest North American debut of the decade (male, female or group), shifting 313,000 units in the first week and has already hit NUMBER 1 in the Billboard 200 album charts for an additional 2 nonconsecutive weeks since its release, earning Billie more than 24 billion combined streams worldwide to date. Billie Eilish is officially the first artist born this millennium to achieve both a No. 1 album and single, and is now the third female solo artist in the 31-year history with multiple songs topping the Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart (alongside Alanis Morrissette and Sinead O’Connor). Just yesterday, it was confirmed she has made Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart history as the first ever solo female artist to score her fourth straight career-opening top 10, with her single “all the good girls go to hell.”

George Ezra ''ShotGun'' from his second album 'Staying At Tamara's'

George Ezra

Shotgun

Four years ago, George Ezra ranked the UK’s third highest-selling record of the year: his debut ‘Wanted On Voyage’ was topped only by the stadium-filling anthems of Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith. The world-beating tracks like ‘Budapest’ were enough to sustain Ezra’s immediate success as artist too watch.

George Ezra headed to Barcelona, where Ezra wrote a second album that takes his jaunty charm and injects it with a vital slice of maturity. It’s teeming with uplifting tunes intent on burrowing their way into the deepest recesses of your ears.

Opener ‘Happy Smiling People’ sees Ezra anchoring an infectious chorus around dark and world-weary lyrics: “What a terrible time to be alive if you’re prone to overthinking”, he croons, before offering a message of upbeat and hearty resilience (“Hey pretty smiling people, we’re alright together“). ‘Shotgun’ is another early standout, providing Ezra with the chance to prove that he’s far more than a identikit troubadour as he delves into Afrobeat rhythms a world away from his first record.

As the album progresses, the choruses get bigger – reaching their apex at the album’s midpoint with the defiant stomp of ‘Paradise’, an on-the-nose tale of headiness during the early stages of a relationship.

The emotional thread gets a lot more serious during the final third, notably on the soft cut ‘Hold My Girl’, which sees Ezra ditching the twanging guitars for his most soul-baring song yet – one destined to become first-dance material.

Maturity, however, is no bad thing – it provides one of the record’s strongest songs in ‘Saviour’, Ezra’s first collaboration with Swedish country sensations First Aid Kit. Like the theme tune for some imaginary neo-western, it perfectly combines Ezra’s deep vocals with the soulful vocal stylings of the Soderberg sisters.

Ultimately, it’s this blend of new-found maturity and crowd-pleasing choruses that transform Ezra’s second offering into the perfect progression from the sound of his debut.

Imagine Dragons New Single ''Bad Liar'' Is Raw and Haunting!

Bad Liar

New Single From

Imagine Dragons

Follow up single to smash hit "Natural".

"Bad Liar" is already making waves at both sides of the border

“Origins” the band “delivers again” but in different ways than their past work. "Origins" is “supposed to be a sister companion to last year’s monster ‘Evolve’ and it’s an intriguing follow-up, offering more textures and sonic experiments. If ‘Evolve’ was the band stalking around as an arena powerhouse, ‘Origins’ is their quirky little sister, making cool stuff in her bedroom.”

"Origins'" single “Bad Liar” is largely about masking pain.

Dan Reynolds' vocals are crisp and haunting on the song "Bad Liar." It is the fifth track featured on their latest studio offering, Origins, which was released via KIDinaKORNER / Interscope Records.

The song's music video was directed by Ryan Reichenfeld, and it was filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada. It tells the story of a complex and tumultuous relationship. It features gifted dancer Autumn Miller, who will mesmerize the viewer with her stunning dance skills. Marissa Osato served as the choreographer.

It shows the honesty in a couple's relationship by delivering that raw vulnerability.  Dan Reynolds sings "Bar Liar" with a great deal of heart and soul, and he is not afraid to be raw and vulnerable. What makes the music video even more compelling is that it is open to the viewer's interpretation. ''It speaks to you in a haunting way that is so refreshing,'' says Kim Cyr-Goodyear, editor in chief for NOW and THEN Magazine.  ''I absolutely loved it the moment I heard it.  It's a must on anyone's music playlist, '' says Cyr.
