No.2 TRADITIONAL & FOLK

This selection of folk and traditional Irish music is produced with assistance from Music Network and funded by Culture Ireland which is responsible for the promotion of Irish arts worldwide. The tracks reflect the current vibrancy and innovation of Irish musicians as they take the folk and traditional forms, both music genres closely associated with Irish culture and identity, and create distinctive sounds that both honour the tradition and have a contemporary sensibility.

Culture Ireland supports Irish artists in the presentation of their work internationally at the highest level through grants directed towards travel costs. Through its Showcase programme, Culture Ireland has a range of initiatives that are focussed towards these musicians and the development of further opportunities. For 2017, these include events and promotions at Folk Alliance International (Kansas City, February) and WOMEX in Katowice in Poland in October 2017 (as part of the Horizons Partnership). In addition, Culture Ireland supports incoming promoters and presenters at Tradfest 2017 in Dublin. www.cultureireland.ie
