The Gord Bamford Foundation Donates $10,000 to McMaster Children’s Hospital In Hamilton Ontario

Thursday, September 6, 2018 — Today, the Gord Bamford Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton. The donation will go to the Music Therapy Program and provide children in the hospital a chance to use music and its elements to promote and improve mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing for children receiving care.

In attendance at the special event were Gord Bamford, Dr. Peter Fitzgerald (President, McMaster Children’s Hospital), Tracy Akitt (Child Life Clinical Leader),  Bonnie Brittain(Music Therapist) and Orna Richter (Development Officer).

"Supporting music-related programs like the one here at McMaster Children's Foundation is very important to me. People benefit from music in so many different ways. It can lift your mood, teach you a skill for life, or even provide a healing escape from something you might be dealing with," said Gord Bamford.

“We are extremely grateful for the $10,000 gift from the Gord Bamford Foundation to support the Music Therapy Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital,” says Tamara Pope, Vice-President, Marketing and Communications at Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. “This generous gift will enhance the patient experience for children and youth from throughout south-central Ontario who are receiving care at McMaster Children’s Hospital.”

About Music Therapy Program

Music has nonverbal, creative, structural, and emotional qualities which are used to foster and develop a therapeutic relationship between the patient, family and therapist. Within this relationship, music is used to facilitate contact, interaction, learning, self-awareness, communication, and personal development. Music therapists skillfully use music and its elements to promote and improve mental, physical and emotional health and well-being for children receiving care. Music therapists work within an inter-professional health-care team to ensure that the delivery of exceptional clinical care is accompanied by therapeutic services that meet the needs of patients and their families. www.mcmasterchildrenshospital.ca
